As I mentioned in my last post, Annika watches a bit of TV, and lately one of her favorite shows is Martha Speaks.
|This bitch is prejudiced.|
We don’t watch actual TV, we watch videos on Netflix, because I don’t want her seeing commercials. I’m hoping that we avoid commercials forever until she is much older. So that means she sees the same shows over and over.
Wellll, if you’ve never seen it, Martha Speaks is a cute show about a talking dog. And oddly enough, Annika hasn’t connected the name with me. I figured out this week that she thinks the dog’s name is actually, Martha Speaks, not Martha.
The show highlights certain words during each episode. It’s a lesson show, which, if you have read NurtureShock, you’ll know that those are actually one of the types of shows that studies have found harmful because the children pick up on the bad behavior, instead of learning the lesson.
Annika hasn’t picked up any negative behavior from the show. But she has learned a certain word and has been using it in improper context.
Last week I told her something she didn’t like, I don’t even remember what it was, and she firmly and irritably told me, “Mama, you’re just being prejudiced.”
Yeah, I’m being called out by a biracial kid and a talking dog.
That is all.
And for those of you who like my Drlogging posts, I’m a bit tipsy. Have a good weekend.
